Former head of Navalny * headquarters in Ufa sentenced to 7.5 years in prison

The Kirovsky District Court in Ufa sentenced the former head of the Navalny * headquarters in Ufa, Lilia Chanysheva **, to 7.5 years in prison, reports the publication Aspects. She was found guilty of inciting extremism, participating in an extremist community, and founding an organization that violates the rights of citizens.

Chanysheva** after verdict, thanked for support. “It all depends on us. Thank you for your support. With you, it’s much easier to bear. Letters and postcards – I read all this with pleasure, I keep it, I don’t throw anything away. I am very grateful to you,” she said.

At the end of April, the prosecution asked the court to sentence Chanysheva** to 12 years in prison and a fine of 700,000 rubles.

Lilia Chanysheva** was born in 1982 in Ufa. She graduated from the local financial and economic college, then studied at the Russian Government Financial Academy in Moscow. In 2013, Chanysheva** was a campaign volunteer for Navalny, who ran for mayor of Moscow.

In 2017, Chanysheva** headed Navalny’s headquarters* in Ufa and helped organize protests.

In June 2021, the Anti-Corruption Foundation* and the headquarters of Navalny* were recognized as extremist organizations. Chanysheva** was arrested on November 9 of the same year. She was accused of organizing an extremist community (part 3 of article 282.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and an NPO undermining the personality and rights of citizens (part 3 of article 239 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), as well as incitement to extremism (part 1 of article 280 of the Criminal Code). RF).

Consideration of the case on the merits began at the end of February 2023, in March it became known that the meetings would be held behind closed doors. Lawyer Sergei Makarenko informed that at one of the hearings, Chanysheva** refused to admit her guilt and called the criminal case against herself politically motivated.
