The friendly atmosphere created during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s US state visit is significant because the US caters to the aspirations of only two types of its friends—the first Sandhi Mitra and the second Vripa Mitra. Alliance friends include its NATO member countries, while Vrpa friends include countries it protects, such as Israel. But India is his partner friend different from these two. It is making India a partner for its projects and future strategy. America knows that without India it cannot neutralize China i.e. control its expansionist policy. That is why he wants to make India a member of NATO Plus. But India was successful in convincing America that India does not need membership in NATO Plus.
India is ready to work in global politics together with America. Be it the exercise of getting cryogenic engines from America or the desire for drones, many previous governments of India had made efforts. America didn’t bother with the tussle because it used to talk only till the product was delivered, the talk used to end by the time it came to technology. But now the way America has agreed to build it in India itself, it is a matter of great pride for India.
Immediately after independence, in the name of democracy, American Presidents and Foreign Ministers made many important efforts to keep India with them. But at that time India was so weak that even if India had stood with America keeping itself in favor of democracy in opposition to communism, it would not have got a place next to it. America always used all kinds of tricks on India to make it its laggard, but India always had an argument that when democratic brothers consider it, then why do they want to make it laggard? Why not give equal status! This aspiration of India has now been fulfilled. The manner in which the US President and the presiding officers and members of the Parliament treated the Prime Minister with respect, it seemed that in reality America now considers India as its partner and now the feelings that made India a third world country have disappeared. Used to behave considerately. Now India is working in the language of take with one hand and give with the other hand. Modi-Modi slogans were raised both at the White House and Capitol Hill, Modi standing in support of Modi’s words during his address to the parliamentarians and taking the Prime Minister’s autograph shows that the relationship between India and America has infinite possibilities. And that too when India openly claims not to be a member of any bloc.
