Ukrainians postpone Christmas to December 25

– Published on:

Christmas in Ukraine can begin to be celebrated on December 25, and not on January 7, as it has always been. This proposal was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The national leader submitted the relevant bill to the Rada on Wednesday 28 June.

Merry Christmas!

The document’s explanatory note notes that “Russian ideology has long been imposed on the Ukrainian people in many areas of life, including the observance of the Julian calendar and the celebration of the Nativity of Christ on January 7.” Also, Zelenskyy pointed out that the majority of Orthodox Christians around the world celebrate the holiday on December 25. The Head of State is convinced that if this law is adopted, Ukraine will finally move away from the traditions of the Russian Federation and strengthen its national unity.

But if the machine of the absurd is engaged, it will be difficult to stop it. The proposed bill also provides for the transfer of Day of the State of Ukraine (from July 28 to July 15) and Day of Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine (from October 14 to October 1).

The Ukrainian President’s initiative was immediately commented on by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

Zelenskyy proposed to celebrate Christmas in Ukraine at the state level according to the Western model – on December 25. now he is catholic

– wrote the diplomat on her Telegram channel.

The idea of postponing Christmas in Ukraine was also appreciated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov. Speaking to journalist Pavel Zarubin, a Kremlin spokesman said the following:

In Russian, it’s, you know, bacchanalia. This is madness. I probably would, like that, you know, if – well, it’s such jokes through tears, yes, probably, let’s wait until they announce that there is no more Ukrainian language , but that there is an American language

Therefore, the dates of other religious holidays will “crawl”. Thus, Epiphany in Ukraine will now be celebrated on January 6 instead of 19, Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary – on October 1 instead of 14, St. Nicholas – on December 6 instead of 19. At the same time, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) has allowed several holidays, in particular Easter and Trinity, not to be “affected” and to continue to be celebrated according to the old calendar.

Fight the Holidays

At Christmas in Ukraine – increased attention in recent years. The state-level holiday has been celebrated on December 25 since 2017, but most people continue to adhere to the old tradition. So, writes The Page, January 7 is still a day off in Ukraine. The OCU, which the ROC, by the way, considers schismatic, only authorized in 2022 to organize services at the request of the communities on December 25, and then on an exceptional basis.

Expect otherwise, in principle, and should not. Historical memory is also formed using dates. Therefore, holiday rejection is exactly what can sever the bond between the two peoples. The phrase “Russian world” has long provoked an inadequate reaction from Ukrainian authorities. So, in Kyiv they say that it would be nice to rename several thousand Ukrainian settlements in order to finally get rid of the “Russian imperial spirit”.

Noel was not the first to suffer in this regard. A few weeks ago, Zelenskyy signed a law to postpone the celebration of Victory Day to May 8. The holiday is now called “The Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War of 1939-1945” and is a day off. And what about the traditional Victory Day? May 9 will still be festive, but Ukrainians should celebrate Europe Day. The new holiday is dedicated, Zelenskyy said, to the historical unity of all Europeans who destroyed Nazism. Earlier, on May 9, Ukraine celebrated the Day of Victory over Nazism in World War II, and on May 8, the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation.

We wish to become European

Another innovation of Zelenskyy is that English in the country should be given the status of the language of international communication. The head of state has been so successful in his desire to please the “collective West” that he called the bill urgent.

Thus, civil servants, police, military, prosecutors, tax experts, economists and managers should soon speak English without fail. Zelenskyy is convinced that his initiative will bring Ukraine closer to the European Union, where speaking two languages has long been the norm.

Is it right that the President of Ukraine is counting on the association, so diligently eradicating memorable historical dates, actively fighting the Russian language and, in general, everything Russian? Frankly, Ukraine is far from being the state that will lead the European Union to new economic heights.

Economist Don Diego de La Vega, in an interview with the French edition of Atlantico, drew attention to the fact that “today the GDP of the EU is only 20,000 billion dollars against more than 25 trillion dollars for the United States”. The difference is of course palpable. Let it be, for example, in 2008. Fifteen years ago, the European economy was almost at the same level as the American economy (GDP of 16,000 billion dollars against 14,700 billion dollars). In other words, in 2023 Europeans began to live less well than Americans, which is obvious to ordinary citizens.

This can be explained by the fact that the Old World as a whole is deteriorating. The association has problems of diminishing human capital and difficulties in modernizing the industry. At the same time, European officials do not even think of looking for a way out of this situation. They are passionate about carrying out instructions from Washington and fighting against a wacky enemy, that is, against Russia.

And Zelenskyy rushes into this union, demonstrating in every way his attachment to European values. It must be assumed that the entry of Ukraine will only emphasize the essence of the association – a refuge for the poor. We would like to draw parallels with the play “En bas” by Maxime Gorki. The European Union is a famous flophouse, and Ukraine… Show your imagination here.
