The light got stronger in a unique way – “People think it’s so serious with us, but nowhere else is there so much laughter”

The collaborative project between Ljósin and Nettó started on Saturday, but the aim of the project is to raise awareness of the importance of rehabilitation for cancer patients and at the same time raise funds for Ljósin. The collection consists of the sale of bags and decks of cards specially designed and decorated with the work of Þorvald Jónsson. The artist painted the work especially for Ljós, but it is called Keramik.

“We’ve wanted to bring an artist to the table for a long time to raise awareness,” says Sólveig Kolbrún Pálsdóttir, director of marketing and promotion at Ljósin, on web of light on the project proposal. She and Heiða Eiríksdóttir, who is in charge of web and promotional issues for Ljósið, liked the work of painter Þorvaldar Jónsson and decided to drop him a line. He immediately started painting works for the Light. “Dad was just out of rehabilitation at the time,” says Þorvaldur, but his father’s experience with Ljósin’s activities was very positive. “He’s actually just healthier than he was before he had cancer and he’s continued to exercise.”
The products are both elegant and of high quality
Ceramics and mindfulness

Employees were invited to give ideas on what characterizes the activity and the work that has become Keramik. “It’s a bit like Hvar er Valli?”, explains Þorvaldur. In the work, which is naive in style, one can find various objects related to Light, among other ceramics. “We have to look for him. Then there is also a running man, coffee – the most important thing, a spell, a carrot, which means vegetarian food, and a snail, a reminder to go slow.

Sólveig says that many people find ceramic making to be the most fun in Ljósin. “When people work with clay, everything flows, they find each other and discover their talents. It’s a kind of mindfulness.” In addition to exercises with physiotherapists and occupational therapists, you can try different kinds of crafts in Ljósin, use the services of hairdressers, beauticians, massage therapists, have a healthy lunch, coffee and a good conversation. “People think it’s so serious with us, but nowhere else do we laugh so much,” says Sólveig, adding that the Ljósin community is unique.

Cooperation with Nettó

“We wanted to find a good person who was ready to raise the bar with us, and that’s when the connection with Nettó was formed,” says Sólveig. Helga Dís Jakobsdóttir had just been hired as marketing manager of Nettó when she attended a meeting with Sólveiga and Heiða and was stunned by the scale of the business. “Some conflicts have their month and I wanted the Light to have its month. July has the most light. I thought the painting was absolutely crazy, and I had to print it on cloth bags and games of maps – something that is useful for camping trips, camping trips and swimming trips – and sell it to Nettó.” From now on, July will be the month of Ljósin with an annual sponsorship campaign.

All proceeds from these products go directly to The Light. “We thought it was great that these were products you could have for the next 30 years and not landfill stuff,” says Heiða. In addition, 25% of the price of Coop’s Nice & Soft toilet paper goes to Ljósin in July. All people diagnosed with cancer are entitled to the services of the Light, no matter where they live in the country. Therefore, Helga found it ideal to use grocery stores, which are located all over the country, as a platform to draw attention to Ljósin and promote the products.

The campaign lasts until July

The sponsorship campaign was officially launched on July 1. “We are all very excited,” says Heiða. “It’s amazing how it all fell into place. This is how things are supposed to be.” The campaign will then end with an auction of Ceramics from Þorvald.

Bags and games can be purchased in all Nettó stores and in online store here.
