Figure skater Roman Kostomarov, who lost his legs and arms due to a severe course and complications from pneumonia, was discharged from hospital on July 6. The athlete himself announced it on his Instagram* page.

Kostomarov posted a video in which he thanks the doctors and relatives who helped him overcome the disease. “Thank you all for saving my life. And six months ago it all seemed to me, probably, I didn’t understand this and I didn’t feel anything. I coughed at home and left in an ambulance. <…> But what happened happened. And it’s a difficult disease, which, let’s say, almost cost me my life, ”explained the skater.

He admitted that he analyzed what happened and thought a lot about how things could have turned out differently.

“A lot of thoughts in my head after that in terms of what would have been better this way, it would have been better differently. In that case, I’m, in principle, happy to be alive. <…> So, you see, I leave in a good mood and I wish everyone the same mood,” Kostomarov says in the video.

According to a TASS source, within a week the athlete will come back to the hospital to begin preparations for the prosthetic hands. “The hand prosthesis process is in advance, the complete healing process is currently underway,” explained the agency’s interlocutor. Previously, the same information published Shot telegram channel.

Since January 10, 2023, Kostomarov has been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kommunarka near Moscow, where he was hospitalized with pneumonia. StarHit Magazine, citing a source close to the athlete on January 12 arguedthat before going to the doctor, Kostomarov was seriously ill for about a week, “with a temperature of 38.4 he did not fail in performance and continued to conquer the ice” and “instead of medication, he was treated with an ice hole.”

A few days after Kostomarov was hospitalized, it was learned that he was in serious condition in intensive care. In early February, the media learned that Kostomarov, against the background of sepsis and therapy, had gangrene with the risk of leg amputation, on February 7, TASS reported that both feet were amputated from the skater, and a week later, RIA Novosti reported on the amputation of several fingers on the patient’s hands due to gangrene. .

On February 20, a source of RIA Novosti reported that the condition of the figure skater had deteriorated sharply: the part of the brain would have been affected, where a hemorrhage occurred and a hematoma occurred. At the same time, TASS claimed that doctors managed to “respond quickly to the situation”.

the 21st of February RIA Novosticiting his source reportedthat Kostomarov got two shots. Sports doctor Alexander Yablunovsky told the agency it could be due to a bleeding disorder due to pneumonia. In March, as the media reported, the fingers of his left hand were amputated from the athlete.

Kostomarov only posted his first social media post after his hospitalization in May, and in late June he posted a video showing how he trains with prosthetic legs.
