Britney Spears, the pop icon who has been in the limelight for decades, recently unveiled a deeply personal experience she had with Justin Timberlake, her former boyfriend. In an excerpt from her upcoming memoir, “The Woman in Me,” Spears divulges that she became pregnant by Timberlake and subsequently had an abortion.
Spears and Timberlake, both of whom rose to fame as teenagers, were a high-profile couple from 1999 until 2002. Their relationship was the subject of much media attention, and they were often cited as one of the most talked-about celebrity couples of their time.
In the book excerpt published by People, Spears writes, “It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated.” However, Timberlake was not thrilled about the pregnancy. He expressed that they were too young and not ready to have a child.
Spears felt conflicted about the decision. “If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it,” she writes. “And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.” She describes the experience as one of the most agonizing things she has ever gone through, writes the Guardian.
After their breakup, Spears married dancer Kevin Federline and had two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, before divorcing in 2007. Timberlake, on the other hand, married actress Jessica Biel in 2012, and they are parents to two young sons, Silas and Phineas.
The revelation has stirred conversations and speculations. While fans are eager to know what else will be disclosed in Spears’ memoir, others like Timberlake are reportedly concerned about the book’s content.
