Islamabad, Pakistan – Preparations are being made to ban social media in Pakistan. A resolution has been introduced in the Senate of Pakistan, demanding a ban on all social media platforms like Facebook, X, YouTube Instagram, etc. in Pakistan. Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Bahramand Tangi has presented the proposal in the Senate. The special thing is that Tangi’s tenure is ending on March 11.

The proposal ‘against the religion and culture of the country’

states that ‘social media should be banned to protect the young generation from the negative effects of it’. According to the proposal, ‘Social media is badly influencing the young generation of the country. Social media platforms are being used against our religion and culture. Due to this, hatred is growing among people on the basis of language and religion. This proposal will be discussed in the Senate of Pakistan on Monday. However, PPP has distanced itself from this proposal of Tangi. PPP had recently dismissed Tangi from the party due to anti-party activities.

PTI had run a campaign only on social media in the general elections.

Tangi claimed that the use of social media is not in the national interest. Propaganda is being run against the country’s security forces through social media. Also, fake news is circulated on social media, which promotes fake leadership in the country. It is noteworthy that the demand for ban on social media in Pakistan is being raised at a time when the role of social media was very important in the recently held general elections.

In fact, despite all the government restrictions and pressure on PTI, Imran Khan’s party made its voice heard among the people on the basis of social media and its supported candidates won the maximum number of seats. However, PTI was also accused of instigating people against the Pakistani Army. In such a situation, the attempt to ban social media is also being seen as an attempt to put pressure on Imran Khan’s party.
