Belgorod, RUSSIA – The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on May 9 that two Ukrainian aircraft-type drones were successfully intercepted and destroyed over the Belgorod region. The incident occurred between 20:30 and 21:40 Moscow time, thwarting what the Ministry described as attempted “terrorist attacks using aircraft-type UAVs” against Russian targets. The Ukrainian drones were neutralized by Russian air defense systems on duty.
This event follows previous reports of three additional Ukrainian drones being downed over the same region. Additionally, on the same day, drones targeted the Salavatnefteorgsintez oil refinery in Bashkiria, resulting in a fire on the premises. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties from the incident.
Furthermore, on May 9, a drone operated by the Ukrainian Armed Forces dropped an explosive device on Donetsk, targeting the Petrovsky district of the city. The arrival of the explosive was documented at 05:00, according to the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Issues Related to War Crimes of Ukraine (JCCC).
These events underscore the ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Russia, with incidents of cross-border drone attacks and military confrontations continuing to escalate. Just recently, the governor of the Belgorod region, Mr. Gladkov, faced gunfire from the Ukrainian Armed Forces while engaging in a routine jog.
