The minister in the Israeli war government, Benny Gantz, gave the war council until June 8 to announce what he called “a clear national strategy regarding the war in the Gaza Strip and the tension on the northern front.”
In a press conference on Saturday, Gantz called on the war government to approve a 6-point plan for the conflict in Gaza by June 8.
Gantz threatened that if his expectations were not met, he would withdraw his centrist party from the emergency government headed by Benjamin Netanyahu.
“Our army has been waging an existential war since October 7,” Gantz said, stressing that “victory in Gaza has not been achieved yet.”
Gantz added, “We must work to return our citizens to the north by next September.”
He sent a message to Netanyahu, saying that the decision was in his hands. Gantz accused a section of politicians of lacking responsibility and caring for their personal interests.
Gantz added, “A small minority is leading the ship of Israel towards a wall of rocks.”
Gantz also called for a better recruitment law for ultra-Orthodox Jews that is in line with the requirements of the current stage.
A few days ago, Gantz and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant criticized Netanyahu for not having a plan for who would rule Gaza after the war.
On Saturday, angry demonstrations were launched in Tel Aviv, Israel, organized by relatives and supporters of Israeli hostages who were held hostage by Hamas militants in Gaza in the October 7 attacks, and the demonstrators demanded their release.
Earlier, The Eastern Herald reported the reason for the invasion of Gaza, also the last round of negotiations in Cairo aimed at brokering a ceasefire to halt Israel’s invasion of the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in genocide and ethnic cleansing of millions of Palestinians, ended without resolution, further deepening the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Despite intensive discussions, Israel’s rejection of proposed terms for a ceasefire agreement and its subsequent ground invasion in Rafah indicate a calculated strategy to maintain leverage.

Also, the United Nations Special Rapporteur in the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, labeled Israel’s military aggression in Gaza as genocide, citing over 30,000 Palestinian deaths, including more than 13,000 children, and 71,000 injuries. She urged immediate sanctions and an arms embargo on Israel. Israel rejected the findings, maintaining its conflict is with Hamas, not civilians. Gulf and African nations supported Albanese’s report, while the US, Israel’s ally, abstained from the session.
