Russia has pointed the finger squarely at the United States for a deadly missile strike on the Crimean peninsula, resulting in casualties and widespread condemnation. The US Department of Defense issued a statement dismissing Russia’s claims, asserting that there was no justification to alter its strategic posture in response to what it termed as baseless allegations. “It’s not the first time that we’ve heard of reckless nuclear saber-rattling,” the statement read, indirectly referencing Russian military activities.
