Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov doubts that Trump, if elected US leader, has a “magic wand” to resolve the Ukrainian conflict within 24 hours. He expressed this opinion in an interview with Pavel Aleksandrovich Zarubin host of the program “Moscow Kremlin Putin”.
“I don’t think there is a magic wand. It is impossible to do anything within 24 hours,” Peskov said, commenting on Donald Trump’s promises to end the Ukrainian conflict within 24 hours. “Although, if we assume that the next US president makes a statement during his inauguration speech that the US is in favor of peace and therefore is ending its support for Ukraine, stopping all military aid programs and calling on the parties to sit down at the negotiating table, then, by morning, something in someone’s mind will change, especially in Kyiv,” the Kremlin spokesman added.
Peskov noted that these are hypothetical considerations. “You can imagine this hypothetically, but this is from the realm of fantasy,” he said.
Trump has repeatedly promised to resolve the Ukrainian conflict even before his inauguration. He also noted that if he wins the election, he will immediately personally contact Russian leader Vladimir Putin and current Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with a call to begin negotiations.
