Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said today that Brazil and China have proposed a six-point plan to start negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to end their conflict.
Lula da Silva, who discussed the proposal by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin, did not give details of the plan in his speech at the opening of the United Nations General Assembly, reports Reuters.
In his speech at the opening of the United Nations General Assembly, he warned that the Israeli invasion of Gaza is “dangerously” spreading to Lebanon and called for a ceasefire.
“The right of defense has turned into the right of revenge, which prevents an agreement to release hostages and postpones a ceasefire,” said Lula da Silva.
Brazil’s president has renewed his country’s plea for reform of the United Nations, saying the global body is not doing its job of representing the world and stopping wars.
“Ending hunger again is my government’s most urgent commitment”

“Ending hunger again is my government’s most urgent commitment,” said Lula da Silva.
He called for a revision of the UN Charter in order to revitalize the role of the General Assembly in promoting peace and reform of this multilateral institution.
The decision that Latin America and Africa do not have permanent seats in the UN Security Council is an unacceptable reflection of the colonial past, the president of Brazil said.
The annual meeting of the UN General Assembly ends on September 30.
