Israeli forces destroyed the office of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Nur Shams camp, east of Tulkarm in the West Bank.
The Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA) quoted the head of the Nur Shams Camp Services Committee, Nihad Al-Shawish, as saying that bulldozers demolished the UNRWA office located in the middle of the camp and razed its outer walls.
Al-Shawish explained that Nur Shams camp includes two UNRWA schools, one for girls and the other for boys, and both provide educational services to a total of 1,536 according to data for the 2022-2023 academic year.
He pointed out that the camp also contains a health center that provides primary health care services, including reproductive health services, infant and child care, vaccinations and medical examinations, and a dental clinic, all of which are run by the UNRWA office.
on Monday, The Israeli Parliament (Knesset) passed a law prohibiting the UNRWA from working in “Israel,” further hindering its efforts to aid the Palestinians in the war-torn Gaza Strip.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres “There is no alternative to UNRWA,” “The implementation of these laws would be detrimental to the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and for peace and security in the region.”
