Russia ready to mediate for Israel-Hezbollah peace talks

Dmitry Peskov commented on a report stating that Israel had requested Russian mediation in its conflict with Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement.

Russia is ready to assist in settling the situation in the Middle East since it has contacts with all parties to the conflict. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov.

The Kremlin representative recalled the words of the head of the Russian state, Vladimir Putin that Moscow “maintains contacts with all parties to the conflict, maintains contacts with the Israelis, and the Iranians, and the Lebanese, and with all other relevant parties.” “And, of course, if our efforts can be effective somewhere, then Russia will be ready to do so,” Peskov assured. The Russian presidential spokesman commented on a Newsweek report.

Israel had requested Russian mediation in its conflict with Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement, leveraging its unique position to prevent an even larger-scale war from erupting across a region consumed by crisis for more than a year.

“We always prefer the Americans,” Orna Mizrahi, a former Israeli deputy national security adviser now serving as senior researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies, told “But we understand that, because of the Russians’ really good relations nowadays with the Iranians,  they are also part of the United Nations Security Council’s five. maybe they can provide something that will contribute to for the stability of any arrangement in the future, Newsweek reports.

Earlier in the BRICS summit in Kazan, Putin said that it is necessary to work with all participants in the process and to prevent the Middle East conflict from escalating under any circumstances. In his opinion, it is necessary to analyze the situation very calmly and carefully, and in no case to condone disproportionate responses to terrorist acts.
