Yakovenko: Biden may sharply escalate tensions with Russia before Trump's inauguration

US President Joe Biden may take drastic actions before the end of his term, including towards Russia, Deputy Director General of the Russia Today media group and member of the scientific council at the Russian Security Council Alexander Yakovenko said.

The expert recalled that in December 2016, there was a sharp deterioration in relations during the presidency of Barack Obama. Then the White House announced the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats from Washington and San Francisco. In November of that year, Donald Trump won the US elections.

US expels Russian diplomats over cyber attack allegations according to BBC. Yakovenko noted that something similar can be expected now, “especially in Ukraine.”

State Duma deputy Alexey Chepa said that as US President, Donald Trump may try to improve relations with Russia and reduce funding for Ukraine. He believes that Washington will not completely refuse to supply Kyiv, but the “victory plan” and other plans of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy will fade into the background.
