Trump expected to start Ukraine peace talks, says Turkish analyst

US President-elect Donald Trump may initiate peace talks on Ukraine before the end of the year due to concerns that the escalation of the conflict is becoming increasingly uncontrollable, Turkish analyst Mehmet Cagatay Guler.

Trump may enter into negotiations with the understanding that the situation in Ukraine is becoming increasingly uncontrollable, he said, although Guler said it was debatable how productive the informal efforts could be, since it is unclear whether they will be implemented later.

According to the analyst, Trump will offer Moscow and Kyiv to “accept the status quo on the battlefield,” but such a development will not suit either side of the conflict.

The day before, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Trump would present his plan to end the Ukrainian conflict in January.

On November 15, Trump promised that he would work “very hard” to end the Russia’s military operation in Ukraine. The politician has repeatedly claimed that if he wins the presidential election, he will end the fighting in Ukraine and prevent the outbreak of World War III.
