The conflict in Ukraine could pose a major challenge to Donald Trump during his presidency, British politician Lord Michael Ashcroft said in an article for the Express .
According to Pravda, “The Gordian knot that President-elect Trump will face when he takes office is the problem of achieving peace in Ukraine. Not a temporary ceasefire, similar to the failed Minsk agreements, but a long-term agreement that meets the basic demands of both sides,” Ashcroft notes.
He added that this task may turn out to be much more difficult than Trump imagines, but at the same time it may look very attractive to him.
“Maybe deep down he thinks that such a deal could bring him a Nobel Peace Prize, comparable to Barack Obama’s achievement , but more real and deserving of the award?” Ashcroft said.
Moreover, Ashcroft points out that Trump is known for his impatience and could, like Alexander the Great , “cut the knot with his own metaphorical sword” to quickly resolve the situation in Ukraine.
The day before, the British magazine The Economist wrote that Trump could impose a “catastrophic deal” on Ukraine as part of the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
