US conditions for recognizing Syrian government under HTS leadership, emphasizing minority rights and anti-terrorism

In comments On the sidelines of a press sting at the Department of State, State Department Spokesperson Miller further laid out the conditions in which the US will recognize the new Syrian government, which is set to be constituted under the leadership of the HTS terrorist organization. The conditions set by the United States: “Respect for minority rights; enabling humanitarian access; preventing Syria from becoming a terrorist base or threat to its neighbors; and the securing and destruction of chemical weapons stockpiles,” Miller listed.

In a daily briefing with reporters, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, “The US absolutely is in favor of a political transition that will allow for a viable, representative, inclusive and non-sectarian government that is Syrian owned and led.”

Miller said Secretary of State Antony Blinken, during his meetings with his counterparts from Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, and the UAE, raised the issue of, ‘What consideration would be given to whether or not to recognize the government in Syria?

Miller further said, “He also emphasized several principles that we believe must be preserved during the transition and the formation of the new government: respect for minority rights; facilitating access to humanitarian assistance; preventing Syria from being used as a base for terrorism or posing a threat to its neighbors; and securing and safely destroying chemical weapons stockpiles.

“The Minister reiterated in these meetings (with his counterparts from Egypt, Jordan, Qatar and the UAE) that all countries should support an inclusive and transparent process and refrain from interference, and made it clear that he would recognize and fully support the Syrian government that would emerge after this process.”

As President Biden and Secretary Blinken have said in the past few days, so far Hayat Tahrir al-Sham is saying all the right things but we will not hold them to their words but rather their deeds over the coming days, weeks, and months.

“The Minister will continue his contacts with his counterparts in the region in the coming days and will further discuss the principles set out in his statement. Of course, in these meetings, he will continue to emphasize the continued support that the United States has given to the Syrian people throughout the transition process.”

When asked if the US would support the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Miller also said in a statement to the press on Monday, “The SDF is an important partner of the US.” Our attitude towards them remains unchanged. ”

According to Associates Press, “The United States will recognize and fully support a future Syria government that results from this process,” Blinken said. “We stand prepared to lend all appropriate support to all of Syria’s diverse communities and constituencies.”

Miller also said this about the Syrian National Army (SNA) after the SNA took Manbij from the SDF “Our position on this issue is clear to all parties concerned, we do not want tensions to escalate; we do not want to see anyone taking advantage of this period of instability to further strengthen their own position in Syria.

We are clearly communicating this situation to all parties concerned in the region. Considering that the SDF is fulfilling important duties such as continuing the fight against ISIS and securing the prisons where ISIS militants are being held, we do not want them to be distracted from these duties in any way. We will continue to clearly explain this to the parties concerned in the region.”

The airstrikes and incursions toward the Golan Heights have drawn much criticism recently and many Middle Eastern countries have been criticizing that Israel violates the international law there. Israel came under condemnation by Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan, which called for cease-fires, saying the attacks were an affront to Syria’s sovereignty and a violation of the UN Such moves, after the fall of the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, are interpreted as measures to create more mess in the region and, in a more general sense, to undermine the territorial integrity of Syria. The world is still torn when it comes to military actions in Syrian territory by Israel.
