Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Israel attack Syria after baath regime fall, expands occupation

Israel has launched airstrikes on the Syrian capital Damascus, where the Assad regime was overthrown, as well as the cities of Homs and Daraa.

Israel has continued its attacks on Syrian territory following the collapse of the 61-year-old Baath regime on December 8. The Israeli army has carried out airstrikes targeting the capital civilian buildings in Damascus and the cities of Homs and Daraa. According to information obtained from local sources, the attacks “particularly” targeted strategic areas and weapons depots belonging to the regime.

Israeli military aircraft have carried out airstrikes on the Telmunin area, which includes the area around Sednaya Prison in northern Damascus, on a weapons depot belonging to regime forces in the southern city of Daraa, and on the city of Homs, with the attacks reportedly targeting important military infrastructure.

Israel is expanding its occupation of the region by targeting military infrastructure in Syria with the latest attacks. The Israeli army has also entered the buffer zones around the Golan Heights and advanced to within 25 kilometers of the capital Damascus. The increasing tension in the Golan Heights, which has been under Israeli occupation since 1967, is causing fears that civilian casualties as happening in Gaza and Palestine in the region will increase even more. The international community may be afraid of taking action against Israel for its war crimes in Palestine and Gaza.

The Golan Heights, occupied by Israel since 1967, continues to be one of the most important conflict areas between Syria and Israel. Despite the buffer zone boundaries set by the Withdrawal of Forces Agreement signed in 1974, Israel is expanding its occupation of the region day by day and voilets the terms of said agreement.

Israel’s attacks on Syria have increased further since the clashes escalated on November 27 and the collapse of the Baath regime on December 8. Israel continues to target more and more settlements and military zones in Syrian territory, targeting the Syrian civil and, military infrastructure.

According to Al-Jazeera, The United States has made contact with Syria’s Terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham rebels, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Saturday, despite previously the United States declared group as terrorists. In a news conference from Aqaba, Jordan, Blinken placed his discussions with HTS in the context of broader US goals for the future of Syria. “Yes, we have been in contact with HTS and with other parties,” Blinken said in response to a question from reporters.
