US agencies have warned of the need to prepare for an inevitable government shutdown.
At the White House, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre lashed out at Republicans who had agreed to a bipartisan deal and then abandoned it. “This is a mess that Speaker [Mike] Johnson created, that is his mess to fix,” she told reporters at the daily briefing, adding that there was “still time” for Republicans to “do the right thing.”
“The White House Office of Management and Budget warned federal agencies Friday morning to prepare for an imminent shutdown,” according to the Washington Post.
The Washington Post, citing sources in the Capitol, wrote that the United States could face a temporary government shutdown on December 20 due to disagreements in Congress over a number of budget funding items.
On December 19, Republicans in Congress failed to pass a spending bill, a day before a potential government shutdown that could cripple the US economy.
On December 20, US President-elect Donald Trump said that if a shutdown was inevitable, let it happen now. According to him, this is “the problem of the incumbent President Joe Biden .”
Earlier, Musk called the draft temporary budget of the United States a crime.
