In Biden’s farewell speech to the United States, White House Chief of Staff Joe Biden stated the need to amend the US Constitution to abolish the president’s immunity from liability for crimes committed in office.
“We need to amend the Constitution to make clear that no president, no president, is immune from crimes he or she commits while in office. The president’s power is not unlimited. It’s not absolute. And it shouldn’t be,” Biden said
In addition, the outgoing president pointed out the importance of fighting corruption in politics. He emphasized that the United States needs to quickly get rid of hidden campaign financing.
Biden did not talk about Russia during his farewell address to the nation. He decided not to mention relations between Moscow and Washington, as well as the leadership of the Russian Federation.
Biden’s presidential term ends on January 20, when US President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated. Biden ends his term after four years in office.
According to The Hill, Biden said that “an oligarchy is taking shape in America of extreme wealth, power and influence that literally threatens our entire democracy.”
In November 2024, Trump won the election with 312 electoral votes, while his opponent Kamala Harris received 226 votes.
