Israeli airstrikes target Gaza despite ceasefire announcement, 23 killed

Despite the ceasefire that was set to begin in Gaza on Sunday, the Israeli army has launched airstrikes with its fighter jets on northern Gaza and Gaza City. The attacks began immediately after the ceasefire was announced.

The killings come as the Israeli cabinet prepares to vote on the deal.

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani announced that an agreement was reached between Qatar, Israel, and Hamas on a ceasefire and prisoner swap in Gaza and that the implementation would begin next Sunday.

The agreement came after Israel launched its attacks on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, which have been continuing for 467 days and left more than 156,000 dead and injured.
