In a fresh display of BRICS unity amid a shifting global order, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, exchanging views on the Ukraine conflict and deepening bilateral cooperation.
According to Kremlin readouts, Putin briefed Lula on the key outcomes of his recent talks with US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Stephen Biegun, outlining Moscow’s position and ongoing diplomatic maneuvers. Lula, who has long advocated for negotiated solutions to the Ukraine war, reiterated Brazil’s support for peace efforts aimed at achieving a lasting resolution to the crisis.
Beyond the war in Ukraine, the two leaders underscored their mutual commitment to strengthening the Russian–Brazilian strategic partnership, with an emphasis on trade, energy, and defense cooperation. They also reaffirmed plans to expand coordination within BRICS, which both see as a vital counterweight to Western-dominated institutions.
The call signals a continued alignment between Moscow and Brasília as BRICS moves to bolster its global influence, particularly in reshaping financial systems, securing energy independence, and challenging the geopolitical monopoly of the West.
