Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

After 17 years of detention, the Israeli occupation releases the oldest Palestinian prisoner

Today, the Israeli occupation released the Palestinian prisoner, Fouad Al-Shobaki (83 years), after serving 17 years in prison.

Throughout the years of his detention, Al-Shobaki’s name was associated with many nicknames, the most prominent of which is "Sheikh of the prisoners". He is also a Palestinian soldier with the rank of Major General, and was responsible for the military financial administration in the security services.

Al-Shobaki is considered the oldest prisoner in the occupation prisons, and he suffers from chronic health problems. In the past few years, he has become dependent on his fellow prisoners to meet his needs.

Al-Shobaki was kidnapped by the occupation forces on March 14, 2006, in a raid on the Jericho prison of the Palestinian Authority, which included the kidnapping of others, most notably the Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Ahmed Saadat, and the assassination cell of the Israeli Minister of Tourism, Rehavam Zeevi.

Israel sentenced Al-Shobaki to 20 years in prison, which was later reduced to 17 years, after accusing him of "Mastermind" Who bears the first and direct responsibility for financing and smuggling a ship loaded with weapons known as "Karen A" (Karine A).
