Washington welcomes ceasefire in Gaza and praises Egyptian role

The White House announced that Washington welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinians.

Reuters quoted the White House as saying, “The United States thanks Egyptian President Sisi and Egyptian officials for their diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire in Gaza.

On the fifth day of clashes between Israel and the “Islamic Jihad” movement, Cairo on Saturday presented a new ceasefire proposal, which was accepted by both parties, and in light of which the armistice came into effect on Saturday evening.

Egypt’s new formula includes a mutual ceasefire, including Israel’s immediate halt to the bombing of homes and the killing of civilians, and the Jihad movement’s halt to rocket fire.

For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his thanks to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for the mediation.

For his part, Al-Sisi indicated that Egypt has made tireless and concentrated efforts and efforts to contain the situation on the ground and to prevent the expansion of confrontation and the increase of military actions.

Al-Sisi stressed that Egypt looks forward to renewing the hope of the Palestinian people to achieve the desired peace and obtain their legitimate rights in accordance with international benchmarks, which imposes the inevitable to end the cycle of violence and repeated escalation in an effort to open the door to opportunities and efforts for settlement and stability and calm in view of launching the peace process between the Palestinian and Israeli peoples, which would change the reality of the whole region.
