Dutch justice seizes land belonging to Putin’s ex-son-in-law

The step comes amid relentless efforts by the West to impose sanctions and restrictions on those close to the Russian president, in response to Moscow’s military offensive in neighboring Ukraine since February 2022.

According to the American magazine “Newsweek”, the land is located in the “Dauphindrecht” area, with an area of 1,432 square meters, and only 6 kilometers from the center of Amsterdam.

The land was seized on May 12 by the Dutch Public Prosecutor’s Office for Financial, Economic and Environmental Crimes.

The judicial office that decided to seize the land is responsible for applying the sanctions, according to a joint report between the British newspaper “The Guardian” and two other institutions.

The reserved land is currently empty and belongs to Dutch businessman Jorit Wessen, who was the husband of Putin’s daughter, Maria Vorontsova, the Russian president’s eldest daughter.

There were reports of the separation between the Dutch businessman and the daughter of the Russian president in April 2022, that is, shortly after the start of military operations in Ukraine.

The Attorney General of the Netherlands declined to comment on the reasons for the seizure of land from Putin’s former son-in-law, who currently lives in Russia, knowing that the case is being investigated in the Netherlands.
