Members of the Holy Synod of the UPF of the Moscow Patriarchate, headed by Onufry, arrived at the office of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to convey to the state leadership the position of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church regarding the Lavra. The metropolitan counts on a conversation with the president, but everything depends on the reaction of the authorities.
The website of the Press Service of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reports that the Metropolitan plans to convey to the office of Zelenskyy the position of the Church and believes that distorted information is conveyed to the head of state. The priest focuses on the fact that the parishioners of the UOC provided assistance to the Ukrainian army and to all those who suffered from the conflict. Additionally, many Orthodox UOC serve in the military and have died.
- The Ukrainian Orthodox Church is the church of patriots, the church of the Ukrainian people, it is not necessary to fence Ukrainian citizens with fences. UOC believers deserve to be heard, and that the state does not treat them as second class people, so that there is no enmity in society, the message says.
It is reported that the president’s office has accepted a statement from the UOC, but whether the synod’s meeting with the leadership is still unknown.
