The Houthi movement, officially known as Ansar Allah, has declared its intention to resume attacks on Israel if the recently established ceasefire in Gaza is violated. This declaration underscores the Houthis’ dedication to supporting Palestinian resistance and their preparedness to react to any Israeli aggression.
Clarification on Targeting British and US Warships
Khuzam al-Assad, a spokesman for Ansar Allah, offered further specifics on the movement’s military strategy during the truce. He emphasized that the Houthis would not target British and US warships in the course of the ceasefire time frame. However, he cautioned that any continuation of attacks by the US and UK against Yemen would prompt a robust response from the Houthis. Al-Assad stated, “We will focus our military efforts against ships connected to the Israeli enemy. As for the American and British aggression against Yemen, it will be met with open confrontation and resistance from our side.”
Conditions for Halting Attacks on Israeli-Linked Vessels
The Houthis have also delineated circumstances under which they would halt attacks on Israeli-connected commercial vessels. They have communicated to the shipping industry that they will end “sanctions” against ships owned by or flagged under the United States or the United Kingdom. However, they warned that any aggression from these countries would lead to the reinstatement of sanctions. Additionally, the Houthis have indicated that assaults on Israeli-linked ships will cease only when all phases of the ceasefire arrangement are completely implemented.

Since November 2023, the Houthis have conducted numerous attacks on supplier vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. These actions have resulted in the sinking of two ships, the seizure of another, and the deaths of at least four sailors. The Houthis have also launched rockets and drones at Israel, some are being intercepted by Israeli air defenses. In recent weeks, they have claimed to have carried out assaults on central Israel, including the cities of Tel Aviv and Ashkelon, nearly daily. Notably, on December 21, the Israeli military failed to intercept a rocket launched from Yemen, resulting in at least 30 injuries.
