The Wordle answer today, October 29, 2026 (#1958), is MOTOR.

Looking for today’s Wordle hints or the Wordle answer for October 29, 2026? Work through these clues before reading the explanation below. The repeated vowel is the detail to watch. New players can consult our Wordle guide for the game’s rules and tile feedback.

  1. Hint 1: Think of something that produces motion.
  2. Hint 2: The word starts with M and ends with R.
  3. Hint 3: It has two vowel positions, occupied by the same letter.
  4. Hint 4: There are four distinct letters in the five-letter answer.
  5. Hint 5: The answer is a noun.

According to The New York Times’ Wordle Review No. 1,958, today’s answer is MOTOR. The review identifies it as a noun and cites Webster’s New World College Dictionary’s definition: “anything that produces or imparts motion.”

The same NYT review reports an average of 4.5 guesses out of six among its paid advance testers, classifying the puzzle as moderately challenging. That is a tester-panel result, not a global average for everyone playing Wordle. The Times counts an unsuccessful attempt as seven guesses when calculating this measure.

For a smaller nudge, the review supplies T as its consonant hint and O as its vowel hint. Both occur in MOTOR, but the O appears twice, in the second and fourth positions. The other letters are M, T and R, so the answer contains two vowel positions but only one distinct vowel.

Repeated letters also feature in our April 29 Wordle answer, RURAL. Its repeated R offers a consonant comparison to MOTOR’s repeated vowel.

A useful way to examine this answer is to separate letter discovery from placement. Finding O does not establish how many times it occurs. Once your grid points toward MOTOR, check both O positions rather than assuming every tile must contain a different letter. This is an explanation of the answer’s structure, not a claimed personal solving sequence.

For another repeated-vowel example, see our August 15 Wordle answer, LOOSE, which places its two O tiles next to each other rather than separating them as MOTOR does.

The Times states that Wordle is released at midnight in the player’s time zone. Its review page is dated October 28, but explicitly covers the October 29 puzzle, No. 1,958; the puzzle number identifies the correct review.
