A study sounds the alarm.. Anger may be “fatal”

A recent study has linked feeling angry to an increased risk of cardiovascular and heart disease, which may sometimes lead to death, according to the Science Alert website.

A new study conducted by a team of researchers from the United States showed how the lining of blood vessels becomes “tense” even when a person experiences short bouts of anger.

Endothelial stress is linked to an increased risk of heart disease and stroke in patients with coronary heart disease.

The new study indicates that “when we remain relaxed, our blood vessels remain relaxed as well.”

“We saw that anger arousal led to abnormalities in blood vessels, although we do not yet understand what might cause these changes,” says Daiichi Shimbo, a professor of medicine at Columbia University.

Previous studies revealed a “possible link between anger and cardiovascular health,” but the reasons for that relationship were not clear.

Feeling and expressing anger can sometimes be beneficial, but the new study shows that it can also increase the risk of heart problems by restricting blood flow.

These risks increase when the emotions are persistent or chronic in those who already have risk factors for cardiovascular disease, so angry outbursts can put some people’s lives at risk and may lead to death.
