The spreading coronavirus is having an increasing impact on everyday life worldwide. The United States and Australia have reported the first deaths in their countries.

In Germany, further cases were confirmed in numerous federal states on Saturday. Infections with the Sars-CoV-2 pathogen now occur in Bavaria, Baden-Wurttemberg, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Hamburg, Bremen, Schleswig-Holstein, and Rhineland-Palatinate. Four further corona infections were confirmed in Hesse late Saturday evening. There are three men from Frankfurt and one woman from Gross-Gerau. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration announced on Saturday evening that attempts are currently being made to track and inform potential contact persons of those affected. The number of confirmed cases in Hessen thus increases to eight.

Two men from Frankfurt and the woman from the district of Gross-Gerau are connected to the Corona case in Wetzlar, which was confirmed on Thursday. All show mild symptoms of illness. A 1988 born man from Frankfurt is isolated, a 1992 born man from Frankfurt and a 1979 born woman from the district of Gross-Gerau are in quarantine at home. According to the Ministry, the infection of a man born in Frankfurt in 1989 is not connected to the case in Wetzlar. It can be traced back to a trip to Italy.

To date, no infections with the novel coronavirus have been detected in Saarland and the new federal states.

Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) again emphasized that, according to current knowledge, four out of five coronavirus infections were mild or even completely symptom-free. However, the greater the number of infections, the higher the likelihood of severe courses, pneumonia or death, said Spahn.

The Robert Koch Institute counted 66 detected infections for all of Germany by Saturday morning. A number of additional cases were registered in several federal states during the day.

Seehofer and Scholz see Germany armed

Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU) does not expect the fight against the virus to end quickly. “I expect that we will have a vaccine available at the turn of the year,” he told the “Bild am Sonntag”. Until then, the virus had to be combated “with the classic means of disease protection. We have to systematically interrupt the infection chains. ”Seehofer was not completely excluded from the blocking of regions or cities. “This scenario would be the last resort,” said the CSU politician.

Federal Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) sees sufficient funds to counteract the negative consequences of the spread of the virus for the economy. “If the situation required such an impulse to be necessary, we also have the means to launch an economic stimulus package,” said Scholz of the “Welt am Sonntag”.
