The Ukrainian court sentenced in absentia Russian television journalist Anton Krasovsky to five years in prison. He was found guilty of public calls for the overthrow of the government and of genocide. This is the maximum period that Ukrainian legislation provides under these articles.
According to the message The Security Service of Ukraine, its employees know where Krasovsky is.
In Russia, Center E, the Interior Ministry’s anti-extremism unit, is currently conducting a linguistic review of Krasovsky’s statements. The Sota publication published a letter from the Main Directorate of the Moscow Interior Ministry, which confirms the fact of the lawsuit. Experts examine Krasovsky’s statements in the author’s program “Antonyms” on the state television channel RT. What words are subject to review, the letter does not specify.
Anton Krasovsky until October 2022 was the director of Russian-language broadcasting on the RT channel and hosted his own show. He spoke from a pro-Kremlin stance, supported Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine and was known for his extremely harsh remarks. On October 20, on the “Antonyms” program, Krasovsky called for Ukrainian children to be “burned and drowned” if they believe Russia is occupying Ukraine. After that, the journalist was suspended from his job. He himself apologized for his words, explaining that he was “wearing on the air”.
Deputy of the Moscow City Duma Yevgeny Stupin appealed to the Investigative Committee of Russia with a request to evaluate Krasovsky’s statements. On December 17, the Investigative Committee replied to Stupin that it did not consider the corpus delicti in Krasovsky’s words within its jurisdiction, but that the request had been forwarded to the Moscow department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
