Well-known political scientist Yevgeny Minchenko spoke about when Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine may end. The expert considers this question open, notes that the West has already learned from the first lessons of the conflict.
In the West, it is said that Russia can be defeated on the battlefield, that the Ukrainians are ready and that negotiations are not necessary. Yevgeny Minchenko says that this position is practically already a consensus, under which everyone was “broken” except for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
“They believe that if the Ukrainians are ready, they should support them with finances and weapons. Another question arises: what are Russia’s criteria for victory? Is this a complete defeat of Ukraine? Does it reach a certain point of balance? Is this the script of the 38th parallel (Korean)? Or is it a scenario of some sort of negotiation? Not clear. We suspect that it can last a very, very long time. And maybe not a dot, but an ellipsis, ”says Yevgeny Minchenko.
The expert clarified what he meant exactly by “ellipse”. The main thing is that the conflict is fixed at a certain point. After a while, it flares up again. There is a new fixation, again and again a flash. And it can last for many years.
“In my opinion, there will be several iterations, but there will be no final decision,” summarized Minchenko.
Earlier it became known that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regularly makes new requests and requests to his Western partners. He asks for arms, equipment, the introduction of new sanctions against Russia, and now also for investments.
