The United States will supply Boeing with long-range GPS-guided bombs capable of hitting targets up to 70 kilometers away in Ukraine, Bloomberg News reported.
Citing unnamed industry officials, the agency said the Pentagon did not officially acknowledge the delivery of Boeing’s modified Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) system.
The Department of Defense only reported the shipment of “airborne precision-guided munitions” as part of a $1.85 billion package announced on Dec. 21.
However, two knowledgeable sources have confirmed to Bloomberg News that it is an extended range JDAM-ER system.
Pentagon spokeswoman Kelly Flynn said the United States would not release information about the munition due to security concerns.
JDAM systems are used by the US Air Force and Navy and have been sold to 26 countries, Bloomberg News reported.
