Your age can sometimes make a difference. In a place like Hollywood, it can even make a difference when it comes to whether people are chosen. In particular, women are often judged for their age, if they are over 30. As a result, celebrities have sometimes resorted to lying about their age.
Here is an example of a few famous people who have admitted or insisted on not telling the whole truth about their age.
1 Mila Kunis
Actress Mila Kunis rose to fame after her performance on the teenage series That 70’s Show. However, she probably never would have gotten the role if she had told the producers the truth about her age. She told them she was going to be 18 when she was actually only 14.
2Sandra Bullock
Actress Sandra Bullock has admitted lying about her age to continue her career. She said in an interview with E News that she never intended to be dishonest, even though she realized early on that it paid off for her to keep her age a secret.
“After a while you have no idea how old you are because you’ve lied about it so many times.”
3Jessica Chastain
Jessica Chastain didn’t really lie about her age. She instead took the approach of not revealing about her and for a time her age was considered a mystery. Now, however, the day has come and the actress will turn 46 in March.
She once said in an interview that the reason she doesn’t care to reveal her age is that she’s an actress and she wants to play roles of women of different ages and not be limited by her own age.
4Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj has long claimed she was born in 1984, but the lie was exposed in 2011 when a police report was released stating she was born in 1982.
5 Rebellious Wilson
In 2018, fans of actress Rebel Wilson thought she was 28. Then her former classmate came forward and shared a photo of her in a gaggo and revealed that she was actually 36 at the time.
Rebel later explained why she lied.
“Being an actress affects women more than men in terms of ageism and sexism, so being called out by the media for something most sane people in my position would have done was pretty hurtful.”
She explained that actors have what is called an age range of roles they can take on, and that it was appropriate not to let her own age rob her of opportunities.
6 Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi Goldberg went in a different direction than many others who lie about their age. She admitted in an interview in the 1980s that she lied about her age to get a role. At the time, it was believed that she was 35 when in fact she was only 30.
7 Laurence Fishburne
Actor Laurence Fishburne was determined to star as 18-year-old Tyrone “Mr. Clean” Miller in the blockbuster Apocalypse Now. The problem was that Laurence was only 14 years old. He decided to go halfway and lied that he was 16 and got the role. However, he later said in an interview that he was convinced from the start that the film’s director knew the truth.
8 Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey did not want to reveal her year of birth and says she wants to be older. We always wonder if the singer was born in 1969 or 1970.
9 Eminem
Rapper Eminem said in a 1999 interview with Howard Stern that he was 24. However, he was actually 27 years old.
10Geri Halliwell
When the Spice Girls released their debut album, Geri Halliwell would be 21. It later emerged that she was 25 at the time.
