On the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine , the US Treasury Department and State Department announced sweeping new sanctions against Russian companies, officials, military, propagandists , as well as against foreign companies helping Russia to evade sanctions and supplying arms to Russia.
In addition, the United States announced an increase in import duties on more than 100 Russian metals, minerals and chemicals. The total fee increase was approximately $2.8 billion.
In particular, by decree of President Biden, customs duties on most imports of Russian metals and metal products are increased to 70%, and on other goods – up to 35%.
US State Department penalties imposed concerning 60 senior Russian officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, 9 ministers, including the heads of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Digital Development, heads of regions, dozens of other Russian officials and organizations, and Russians involved in stealing grain from Ukraine.
Individuals involved in Russia’s illegal control of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP) faced personal sanctions, including Oleg Romanenko, who was appointed to oversee ZNPP.
Among the propagandists, Olga Skabeeva fell under the sanctions.
The State Department also imposed visa restrictions on more than 1,200 Russian military personnel. The State Department press release specifically states that three military officials, Artyom Gorodilov, Alexei Bulgakov and Alexander Vasiliev, are barred from entering the United States, who are guilty of gross human rights violations committed against prisoners of war and Ukrainian civilians.
The list of companies sanctioned by the US Treasury includes 3 key Russian companies involved in the development and exploitation of Russian nuclear weapons, as well as 3 Russian civilian nuclear companies in the organizational structure of Rosatom.
In the new US Treasury sanctions package – 22 natural persons and 83 legal persons, including 11 Russian banks.
Among foreign companies and individuals sanctioned for helping Russia evade sanctions, the US Treasury Department’s list includes Swiss-Italian businessman Walter Moretti and a network of his partners and companies who secretly bought technology and secret Western equipment for Russian intelligence agencies and the Russian military. Forces, including hydraulic presses, weapon kits and bulletproof vests.
