CASS | Pacific PressWriter Ian Fleming’s writings about Agent James Bond have been censored. The “sensitivity experts” rewrote the books with 21st century realities in mind.The first novel, Casino Royale, was published in 1953. In anticipation of the work’s 70th anniversary, all of Fleming’s books were stripped of racial references. Such an order was made by Ian Fleming Publications, which is the copyright holder for the writer’s work.In April 2023, a series of novels will be published with the text edited by “sensitivity experts”, reports GBNews. Books now have an indicator that alerts readers when the content has changed based on current public opinion.”This edition has received a number of updates while remaining as close as possible to the original text and the period in which it is included,” the disclaimer reads.Fleming’s Bond isn’t the first to be censored by publishers. For example, a number of books by British writer Roald Dahl have also been rewritten with current trends in mind. Even his work “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” was reprinted.
