A video of a plane crash near the town of Yenakiyevo, 10 km northeast of Donetsk, was shown on Telegram channels. The city’s mayor, Roman Khramenkov, urged everyone to get off the streets, saying a plane had been shot down over the city. Authorities have yet to release details of what happened.
Presumably, an unknown missile shot down a Russian Su-34 bomber. The crew of the plane managed to eject, some videos show two parachutes descending to the ground not far from Yenakiyevo. Initially, there were assumptions about the Ukrainian affiliation of the downed plane, but later they were refuted.
How the Ukrainian air defense was able to reach the deep rear of the Donetsk People’s Republic and from what the Russian plane was shot down is not yet specified. Recall that the incident occurred in the sky above Yenakiyevo, tens of kilometers from the front line.
At the same time, residents of Donetsk today note increased activity of military aviation. Local telegram channels say the strikes are being carried out on Avdiivka, which has so far been controlled by Kiev.
The Ukrainian army also lost an aircraft. The downing of the Su-24 attack aircraft near Krasnoarmeysk in the DPR was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry in a daily operational report.
