Russia is preparing to conclude intergovernmental agreements on a visa-free regime with 11 countries. On this subject informed Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov during a conversation with TASS.
According to the diplomat, the list of states with which it is planned to conclude an agreement on visa-free travel includes:
Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahamas, Barbados, Haiti, Zambia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago.
Ivanov noted that the agreements “are in various stages of development” and did not specify when the agreements would come into effect.
“It must be understood that the process of agreeing on this type of international treaties is a ‘two-way street’ and that the pace of signing also depends on us and our partners”, explained the deputy minister.
The fact that 11 countries in the near future may become visa-free for Russians, in February declared Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at government hour in the State Duma. According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, it is planned to conclude agreements with six other countries, including India and Indonesia, regulating easier conditions for obtaining visas. In addition, Lavrov announced his intention to remove restrictions on issuing electronic visas to about 70 countries, with the exception of “hostile” ones.
In December 2022, Deputy Minister of the Russian Foreign Ministry Mikhail Bogdanov said RIA Novosti that Russia is working to establish a visa-free regime with almost all Persian Gulf countries.
