The European Union supported the decision of the ICC to issue an arrest warrant against President Putin

The European Union has supported the decision of the International Criminal Court to issue an arrest warrant against Russian leader Vladimir Putin, the European External Action Service (EEAS) said in a statement.

The European Union welcomes and encourages continued efforts to ensure full accountability for the most serious war crimes and other crimes related to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

It is also noted that the European Union sees this decision by the ICC as the beginning of a “process of empowerment and accountability of the Russian leadership”. The EU called on all participating states to cooperate fully with the ICC.

Earlier, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said the International Criminal Court’s decision to “arrest” Vladimir Putin would have monstrous consequences for international law.
