The friendship between senior officials in the region ended in 2019 with the arrest of one of the friends, the attempt on the life of the second and a highly publicized trial. Mikhail Murzaev was found guilty of several crimes at once, writes v1.ru.

Mikhail Murzaev graduated from a law school. In 1986 he joined the prosecutor’s office of the Volgograd region. From December 1996 to September 2007 he served as deputy prosecutor of the Volgograd region. In December 2019, he became an adviser to Alexander Bastrykin.

Businessman Yevgeny Remezov, accused of leading a criminal group, was suspected of having organized the assassination. According to Murzaev, he was arrested because “he sent to prison” a number of influential officials in the region. The suspect was placed in Lefortovo, after which he was charged with illegal possession of ammunition.

Murzaev was sentenced on March 22 to serve 20 years in a strict-regime colony, stripping him of his title and state awards. Governor Bocharov refused to participate in the trial and did not come to any of the meetings.
