The Kremlin does not plan this year to join the environmental action “Earth Hour” on March 25, during which the lighting of buildings is turned off. This was announced by the Russian President’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov. transmits telegram channel of radio “Mayak”.
According to him, this is partly due to the fact that the organizer of the action, the World Wildlife Fund* (WWF*), is registered in the register of foreign agents.
“This year, we have decided not to participate in this action. This is precisely because they (WWF*) have become foreign agents,” said Peskov, answering a TASS question about the Kremlin’s participation in Earth Hour.
On March 22, the World Wide Fund for Nature* announced that it would not organize events in Russia in 2023 due to its foreign agent status. The Earth Hour event, which has taken place in Russia for 13 consecutive years since 2009, will be held online.
