The head of the Karelia Ministry of Health, Mikhail Okhlopkov, said that a person eats an average of 60 kilograms of meat per year. On his page on the social network, he highlighted both the useful and harmful properties of this product.

Thus, the danger of red meat, and especially pork, lies in the high content of saturated fats they contain. They increase the level of “bad” cholesterol, which can lead to atherosclerosis.

“In general, animal products can contribute to the development of intestinal dysbacteriosis and vascular damage, which leads to heart disease,” Okhlopkov noted.

But you should also not forget about the beneficial properties. According to the Minister, red meat will become an indispensable tool for people suffering from anemia, since iron is better absorbed by the body in this situation. Favorably, animal protein will affect the body of children and pregnant women, since it performs the functions of a building material.

Okhlopkov added that it wouldn’t work to replace meat with legumes with the same benefits. Normally, the ratio of plant to animal protein should be 50 to 50.
