Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Jeepers harmed the environment of Karelia

The Karelia inter-district prosecutor’s office decided to find out whether the law was violated during the Ladoga Trophy festival.

Last year, forestry specialists from Käsnäselga district examined the forest areas of Suojärvi district and painted a sad picture: forest litter, moss and similar forest resources have been destroyed. As the Karelian Environmental Prosecutor’s Office found out, it was on the site of the identified violations that the course of the Ladoga Trophy festival passed. Damage to nature was caused due to the movement of vehicles outside the existing forest roads: jeeps traveled along the coastal strip of the lake.

An administrative file has been opened against the organizer of the event. The Ministry of Natural Resources of Karelia agreed with the reasoned arguments of the prosecutor, found the organizer guilty and imposed a fine.

Then the decision was appealed, but the Suojärvi District Court upheld the decision of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Republic in force.

Also, the statement was sent to the Vasileostrovskiy District Court on the initiative of the Environmental Prosecutor. The aim is to recover from the organizer of the competition the damage caused. The amount exceeded 3.5 million rubles. The case is currently pending.
