The Shura Council expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the recent incident in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, in which an extremist burned a copy of the Noble Qur’an, stressing that the continuation of this behavior and at this particular time, in which Muslims live in a spiritual atmosphere during the blessed month of Ramadan, is a deliberate provocation. And a grave insult to them, and he warned that allowing the official authorities in a number of European countries to continue and protect these disgraceful behaviors, has dire consequences that negatively affect the values of tolerance and coexistence. This came in the regular weekly council meeting, which was held today at "Tamim bin Hamad Hall" At the Council’s headquarters, headed by His Excellency Mr. Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Speaker of the Shura Council, according to the Shura Council’s website. In this context, His Excellency the Speaker of the Shura Council said: "The continuation of these provocative calls is an affirmation of the need to create a legal and legislative framework to protect religions, sanctities and places of worship from abuse and desecration, in a way that contributes to achieving peaceful coexistence and curbs hate speech, which is what the Shura Council has repeatedly called for, and still is, and it has translated this through the call, On behalf of the Arab Parliamentary Group, to include this issue as an emergency item on the agenda of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which was held recently in Bahrain, which was widely accepted and supported.". The Council renewed its call for the need for international legislation to limit, prevent and criminalize those disgraceful behaviors that only lead to more discord, division and hatred, holding the Inter-Parliamentary Union in particular, and the international community in general, responsible for taking effective action to find that legal formula that provides Protection of religions and sanctities from violation and abuse. After that, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al-Fadala, Secretary General of the Shura Council, read the agenda of the session, and the minutes of the previous session were approved. During the session, the Council reviewed the memorandum of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers regarding the proposal of the desire expressed by the Council regarding aspects associated with marriage. In their interventions during the session, members of the Shura Council stressed the importance of family stability and its impact on the stability of society, stressing that facilitating marriage and reducing its costs is one of the most important factors that contribute to establishing a stable family based on understanding and affection. They called for limiting the lavish and extravagant aspects of marriage, which later cast a shadow on the spouses, who have incurred debts and exorbitant costs since the start of their married life. He called on the members of the council to be guided by the culture of parents and grandparents in facilitating matters of marriage, in accordance with the guidance of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. They pointed out that during the Corona pandemic and the restrictions it imposed on gatherings and celebrations, families in Qatari society witnessed simple marriages devoid of costly and exaggerated appearances, which means that these manifestations can be dispensed with. They emphasized what the Council demanded, regarding the need to prevent any modifications to marriage halls, with the aim of reducing expenses in addition to maintaining security and safety requirements, noting the importance of determining the times for holding wedding ceremonies, and not exceeding the specified time. The members drew attention to the role that the media, civil society institutions and all concerned parties should play in educating society about the importance of facilitating marriage and spreading a culture of mitigating its negative aspects and limiting its costs, in order to build a stable family. The session continued, as the Council approved a request to extend the work of the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee to study a draft law on regulating real estate registration.
