The Russian side is ready to exchange constructive views on the topic of nuclear risk reduction. At the same time, the Russian Federation believes that the efforts of various parties should be aimed at preventing crises that could lead to clashes with the participation of countries with nuclear weapons.
This statement was made by the representative of the Russian delegation Denis Zhuykov during the plenary session of the Conference on Disarmament (CD) in Geneva.
“We reiterate that the Russian Federation is ready for a constructive exchange of views on the topic of nuclear risk reduction with all interested parties. Multilateral efforts should aim to reduce the potential for confrontation and prevent crises that could lead to direct military confrontations involving nuclear countries,” he said.
Zhuikov added that Russia considers it necessary for all nuclear powers to refrain from actions “that go against the joint statement of the leaders of the five nuclear countries on the prevention of nuclear war and the prevention of an arms race on January 3, 2022”. ”
Such actions, according to the diplomat, mean the abandonment of any attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the nuclear powers and to destabilize their political and socio-economic situation.
“We must refuse to alter and weaken the outline of the external security of other nuclear powers by expanding military alliances, inciting existing hotbeds of tension and creating new hotbeds of tension, including provoking interstate contradictions and inspiring “color revolutions” in states near the borders of other nuclear powers. powers”, – underlined the Russian diplomat Zhuikov.
He also drew attention to the statement by the British authorities regarding their intention to supply the Kiev regime with depleted uranium ammunition, which the diplomat said undermines trust between members of the nuclear five and leads to a further escalation of the situation, calling for the abandonment of “any new destructive and provocative approach”.
The representative of the Russian delegation noted that the reduction of nuclear risks should be associated with the process of “correcting the broken architecture of international security”, part of which could be arms control in the future on the basis of the “principle of equal and indivisible security”. , as well as the mutual recognition of the interests and concerns of the parties”.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the British statement on supplying munitions containing depleted uranium to Kiev. He refuted the thesis that the shells with him are harmless. According to him, they do not belong to the category of weapons of mass destruction, but they are very dangerous, which is confirmed by experts.
