Prosecutor General, Republic Prosecutor of Tatarstan Ildus Nafikov asked the court to impose a life sentence on Ilnaz Galyaviev, convicting him of the mass murder in a gymnasium in Kazan in 2021. The position of the office of the prosecutor on this high-profile criminal case was announced by Nafikov during the trial of the parties on March 29.
The prosecution imposed on the defendant the most severe punishment provided by the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, specifying that Galyaviev should spend the first years of imprisonment in prison.
“Ildus Nafikov suggested that the court sentence Galyaviev to life imprisonment with the first 5 years in prison, and then to a penal colony with a special regime,” reports the press service of the General Prosecutor’s Office.
In addition, the prosecutor’s office demanded that the civil actions of the victims be recognized as fair and that 101 million rubles and 1.4 million rubles of material damage be recovered as compensation for moral damage.
Earlier, Russian Federation TFR Chairman Alexander Bastrykin said that Galyaviev should conduct a repeated forensic psychiatric examination, which refuted the previous findings of experts and confirmed the defendant’s mental health. It was the results of this study that enabled prosecutors to demand life imprisonment rather than compulsory psychiatric treatment. The basis for recognizing the reason was, among other things, data on the influence of the ideas of a certain subculture on Galyaviev and the conclusions of destructologists who established that he “duplicates the actions of other followers of this trend.
Recall that on May 11, 2021, 9 people were victims of a mass execution in the Kazan gymnasium – seven schoolchildren and two employees, 24 people were injured of varying severity. More than 600 people are victims of the case, 139 of them suffered serious bodily harm. Public prosecutor seeks life sentence for Ilnaz Galyaviyev
