The situation on the referendum could become clearer after the May holidays
Alexander Strukov, co-chairman of the council for studying public opinion on changing the name of Volgograd to Stalinrad, chairman of the Council of Veterans of Volgograd, said that the question of holding a referendum on this issue would be clarified after the May holidays. He is quoted by RIA Novosti.
Recently, the Public Council for the study of opinion on the return of the city of Volgograd to its former name Stalingrad began to organize meetings with the public of the city, during which the inhabitants were asked about their perception the idea of holding a referendum?
According to Alexander Strukov, “the study of public opinion will continue.” He assured that no one would speed up this process, adding that “most likely, after the May recess, we will come to some clarification on the referendum”. Strukov also noted that “the referendum will not be linked to the election campaign, to the day of the single vote”.
However, during one of the meetings with the residents of the region, the head of the Public Council, Alexander Bloshkin, said that a decision on holding a referendum should not be expected in the coming months. .
Recall that in November, the regional organization of Volgograd veterans asked Governor Andrei Bocharov to consider renaming Volgograd to Stalingrad. The governor replied that only a referendum could decide this question. In addition, it is necessary to create a Public Council to study the opinion of citizens on this issue.
It should be noted that the topic of renaming Volgograd to Stalingrad is not first raised by public organizations.
