According to him, the Italian authorities have shown political commitment.
The son of the governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Alexander Uss Artem Uss, said he was in Russia. Previously, the businessman was arrested in Italy at the request of the United States for violating anti-Russian sanctions. According to Uss Jr., the Italian authorities have shown political commitment.
Earlier, Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, citing local police, reported that Artem Uss managed to escape from house arrest in the suburbs of Milan. In the escape, the son of the governor of Krasnoyarsk was helped by 6-7 people who moved at least 4 cars.
In addition, the publication wrote that Uss Jr. managed to literally “dissolve” from the apartment, which was under the round-the-clock guard of the Carabinieri. The escape itself took place the day after the Italian court issued an extradition permit for Artem Uss to the United States.
And now, after more than a week, Artem Uss got in touch and said he was in Russia. According to him, the last few days have been particularly dramatic for him.
“I am in Russia! During these few particularly dramatic days, strong and reliable people were at my side. Thanks to them,” Uss Jr. told RIA Novosti.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation also put Artem Uss on the wanted list. The businessman noted that Italian justice, in which he had until then believed, showed a clear political bias. Uss is sure that the court decided on his extradition under pressure from the American authorities.
“In today’s international environment, when we are ‘played without rules’, my return to my homeland, even in such a ‘non-standard’ way, is a victory,” Uss added.
Recall that the American authorities have accused Artem Uss of evading sanctions and money laundering, along with four other Russians: Yuri Orekhov, Svetlana Kuzurgasheva, Timofey Telegin and Sergey Tulyakov. According to the US Department of Justice, they were engaged in purchasing sanctioned dual-use military electronics and technology from the United States through a network of front companies.
In October 2022, after a request from the US Department of Justice, Artem Uss was detained in Italy. Under US law, he would have faced up to 30 years in prison. Experts have noted that the case against Uss Jr. is most likely political in nature. The same opinion was shared by the father of Artem Uss – the governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Uss.
After Uss Jr. was detained in Italy, the Russian Interior Ministry put him on the wanted list in a money laundering case. Experts assumed that in this way Moscow intended to add the extradition of a businessman to his homeland.
