“The partners have signaled to us that they are ready to rotate our diplomatic mission personnel as the epidemic situation normalizes. We are in close contact with the Korean partners,” the ministry said.
At the same time, the Russian Foreign Ministry clarified that at present it does not have “officially confirmed information on the readiness of the DPRK to resume diplomatic activities after the country was isolated for three years due to the coronavirus pandemic”.
“As for the issue of the rotation of diplomatic staff at the Russian Embassy in Pyongyang, we are constantly putting it before the North Korean side,” the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
At the end of March, the Financial Times wrote that Pyongyang was preparing to resume diplomatic activity after the country was isolated for 3 years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the newspaper said, citing sources, the DPRK will rotate its foreign envoys in the coming months after suspending almost all diplomatic travel in 2020 due to the pandemic.
